Shooting a Scene
Coverage shooting
The filmmaking technique of shooting with 1 camera from mulitple angles.
This is called "Coverage Shooting."
Typically a scene is "covered" by shooting from a minimum of 3 angles using 1 camera.
After one angle of a scene is shot in its entirety the camera will be re-positioned in order to shoot the scene all over again from the second angle. The camera is moved for the third angle and the entire scene is shot again.
Each angle will emphasize a different subject
All action and dialogue must be repeated for each angle so that any of the 3 angles can be used at any point in the scene.
An editor has a choice of 1 of 3 angles for the same point in the scene.
Shooting from a minimum of 3 angles and using multiple shot sizes will make your videos flow
Master Shot:
For a 2 person
Typically the scene is first shot in a "Master Shot." This is a wider shot of the entire scene that shows the actors/subjects, their movements and actions that in the scene.
Single shots of each subjects
