Impress the world with your professional online presence!
Students will use Google Sites (preferred) or WIX.com to create their own professional looking personal portfolio. Students are encouraged to maintain this as a current presentation of their work. Colleges, universities will often require students to have a portfolio.
Caution: Virtually all employers will look at your online presence before even deciding to grant an interview. Be responsible online. Your website should give post-secondary institutes and prospective employers a good sense of what you have been working on in school and how your skills progress through the years. They will also be looking to see if you seem to be a responsible person.
NOTE: You may use any school website you already from other courses or years - All content must be school appropriate

NOTE: You may use any school website you already from other courses or years - All content must be school appropriate
- Use your current website and add a new Page (tab) relating to this course
- Add all course units for this class under a new page - build from there
- Website Requirements/Considerations:
- Your website will be evaluated and be included as a part of your overall mark
- Use a personal email account not associated with the school when signing up
- Do not post photos of yourself or family and friends. Peel School Board has strict privacy requirements you must follow. This is not social media
- Keep the design organized and simple. Choose a "professional" looking template - Your work is the star, make it stands out on your pages not the backgrounds
- Be consistent in your design choices. Design from page to page should have similar look and navigation.
- Spelling and Grammar matter and are evaluated - make a good first impression online - proofread and ask a friend to review as well
- Add your unit work as the semester progresses
- Add all your work (Wix & Google Sites will NOT accept project files, such as: .psd; .aeproj; .prproj)
- Website is intended to show progression of your skills over time
- Include thoughtful and fun reflections
- Use correct terminology when reflecting on a unit or project
- Keep it up to date and keep it going!
- Be creative and Have fun!
Written Reflections Expectations
You will answer the following 3 questions through written reflections that are supported by visuals in most cases. Each page will include a series of short reflections for each question or points that summarize the your learning. Each reflection should be between 4 -6 sentences to capture the main point of the learning.
Suggested questions to answer

Each page will include a series of short reflections for each question or points that summarize the your learning. Each reflection should be between 4 -6 sentences to capture the main point of the learning.
Suggested questions to answer
- What are the major learnings for each project (use correct terminology)?
- What challenges did you encounter in each unit?
- How did you overcome these challenges?
Connect Reflections to Visuals
- It is highly recommended that each reflection is connected to at least one visual (image or video) to give context of the points being discussed.
- Avoid posting a bunch of images and then writing a series of reflections that don't have a direct visual connection to what you are talking about. It is not an effective way to showcase your work and discuss your learnings.
- Remember - you are creating a website to impress others not just yourself. They need to understand the connections and learnings for each unit.
- Are are including the highlights for you in the unit
Important Advice
Do not leave creating and populating your website to the end of the course. It is much more difficult to remember what your key learnings were in each unit and the process you followed to complete assignments. We will summarize each unit together to help with main areas of learning you would like to discuss. Students who leave their website to the end of the course typically struggle putting it together or don't complete it.

Video Editing Key Concepts
To tell a visual story
Select best clips- select best portion of clip (exciting video) Story/message
Make sure to engage the audience
Shoot for the edit
Cutting on action - match the action
Cutting on action
Continuity - make sure the action is the same in both scenes you are editing together
Smooth flow, no JUMP CUTS -
Use of different shot sizes AND different angles of shots.
Don’t show long clips of actors doing the same thing, breaks continuity
Compressing time means shortening duration
Compressing time- shorter duration than in real-time
Editing in real time - let the scene play out how the action would normally take
No dissolves or any transitions between clips
Synchronization Between Both The Audio and Video
Audio - keyframes - used to dip down, up, and out the audio (in this case the music)
Audio/video filters- Audio that fades in and out (using a filter) lets the viewer know when something starts or finishes. Same goes with a fade in and out with video
WeVideo audio 270% when dialogue and dip audio music to 50%.
Audio dip/fades
Lack of natural sound (background noises) makes video sound dead
Adjusting audio- make sure music is not competing with voice. Make sure voices are between -3 to -6 decibels
Lower third titles
Full page graphic titles - getting a still image of the actor and adding shapes and text
Hierarchy- Based on the scale, colour, contrast, positioning/alignment, and font of certain graphics, the viewers eyes will be drawn to certain graphics before others. For example in the lower third graphics that words with the larger font (Mr. Elsie’s name) is what the viewers eyes are drawn to first.

Google Sites Tutorials
Mr. Elsie and I have decided to move to Google Sites for student Personal Portfolio websites. It is part of the school Google suite of apps and by-passes some of the security considerations.
If you already have a WIX account you may continue to use it. We will be using google Sites from now on.

Website Organization and Navigation:
Required tabs/pages/subpages - think of this like a folder structure on a computer. It becomes the navigation path to get to your work/content.
1. Page 1: Homepage - Portfolio Name/Title (ie: Initials - Technology Portfolio) the landing page for your site (an organized visual collage of images from all the units would benefit the interest of viewers)
2. Page 2: Grade and Course - ie: Your grade and course name - Gr. 10 Comm Tech with a brief paragraph about the course (course description) and what people will find within your portfolio
3. Example of subpages under "Gr. 10 Media Productions" Tab: Unit Assignments/Projects
All units stated above must be tabbed to the right under page 2 in the Site Menu pages build - see second image below for clarity
